The role of the student scientific circle in the formation of graduates of a new format – physicians researchers

Abstract

In accordance with the development program of Sechenov University from 2021, the educational policy of the university is to train graduates of a new format – a doctor – researcher. The question of the role of the student scientific circle in the educational and research components remains open.

The purpose is to analyze the problem of organizing the activities of the student scientific circle to find approaches to the formation of a new generation graduate – a medical researcher.

Material and methods. For the period 2021–2023, the analysis of the organization and work plans of the student scientific circle of the Department of Epidemiology and Evidence-based Medicine of the F.F. Erisman Institute of Public Health of Sechenov University was carried out. By electronic databases eLibrary.ru and PubMed a search for publications containing information on current methods of increasing students' motivation to participate in research work within the student scientific circle carried out.

Results and discussion. The STEAM model (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Arts) was chosen to prepare a competitive graduate in the student scientific circle “Epidemiology”. Residents of the student scientific circle “Epidemiology” have the opportunity to study in the Laboratory of Epidemiological Analysis. Students study programming in the R language, gain skills in creating reduced copies of real objects and systems (layouts) using augmented reality. A board game “Epi-Quiz” has been developed for in-depth study of epidemiology and vaccine prevention. The forms of work used by the student scientific circle increase the motivation of students to engage in research work.

Conclusion. The main task of the student scientific circle is to motivate the student to research activities in order to prepare a competitive specialist attractive to potential employers.
