Competency-based approach implementation in professional retraining of specialists for work with biological agents of I–II pathogenicity groups

Abstract

At present, the vector of educational paradigm has shifted towards changing the principles and requirements of state educational standards. Methodological basis for modernization in education, including continuing professional education, is a competency-based approach. In this regard, the leading principle in structure of educational programs for professional retraining of specialists working with biological agents of I–II pathogenicity groups should be the principle of formation of professional competence of students.

The aim of the study was to form a list of competencies of bacteriologists and epidemiologists as the basis for updating professional retraining programs (structure, content, training technologies and result monitoring) for working with biological agents of I–II pathogenicity groups in accordance with occupational standards, qualification characteristics of positions and the requirements of federal state educational standards of higher education.

Material and methods. Training programs for professional retraining of bacteriologists and epidemiologists for work with biological agents of I–II pathogenicity groups, implemented on the basis of the Rospotrebnadzor institutions; legislative, regulatory and procedural documents, job qualifications, occupational standards, publications in the fields of education, laboratory diagnostics of highly infectious diseases and ensuring the biological security of work with biological agents of I–II pathogenicity groups. The analytical approach was used.

Results and discussion. A list of professional competencies of bacteriologists and epidemiologists working with biological agents of I–II pathogenicity groups was formed, the goals of professional retraining were updated, the structure, methodological support of educational process, methods for monitoring its effectiveness in solving professional problems were improved.

Conclusion. Implementation of the competency-based approach makes it possible to implement practice-oriented professional retraining of specialists for work to ensure sanitary and epidemiological welfare in the territory of the Russian Federation; carry out epidemiological surveillance, including laboratory diagnostics, in focality of dangerous and highly dangerous infectious diseases; ensure biological safety when working with biological agents of I–II pathogenicity groups and medical wastes.
