Sexually transmitted infections combined with HIV

Abstract

Despite a significant downward trend in the incidence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), the problem remains relevant, since frequent HIV infection aggravates the clinical picture, the course of diseases and the quality of life of patients

The aim is to provide an epidemiological characterization of the incidence of STIs (syphilis, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, chlamydia, anogenital herpes and anogenital warts) in the Republic of Tatarstan, including in combination with HIV infection.

Material and methods. The data of primary medical documentation were analyzed using the method of descriptive epidemiological research in the IBM SPSS Statistics 23 program. The indicators of incidents per 100 thousand of the population of the Republic of Tatarstan, the structure (percentage, %) by gender and age, and the structure of patients by social status were calculated. The comparison of indicators was carried out using the Pearson criterion x2.

Results. In the Republic of Tatarstan in 2011-2020, there is a significant trend to reduce the incidence of STIs in the population from 467.7 cases per 100 000 population in 2011 to 159.0 cases per 100 000 population in 2020, with a predominance in the gender structure of the proportion of women. During the analyzed period, the age structure was dominated by persons aged 18-29 (49.7-60%), the working population predominated by belonging to social groups until 2015, and since 2016 - non-working citizens. In patients with HIV infection, the proportion of anogenital warts tripled from 12.4 to 36.2%, and urogenital herpes increased 2.4 times, along with a decrease in the proportion of chlamydia from 23.2 to 1.7% in 2011 and 2020, respectively, with stable indicators for syphilis, gonorrhea and trichomoniasis.

Conclusion. Stable registration of combined forms of HIV + STIs confirm the presence of a high risk of infection of the population with etiological agents of STIs, which lead to the development of chronic forms, complications and aggravate the course of HIV infection remain important issues of practical health care.
