Chronic brucellosis in patients with professional risk of infection

Abstract

Brucellosis is a widespread infectious disease that tends to become chronic with multiple organ damage.

The aim of the study was to analyze the clinical manifestations of chronic brucellosis and residual brucellosis in patients from occupational risk groups.

Material and methods. On the basis of the center of occupational pathology in Omsk, 120 people (83 women, 37 men) were examined with a diagnosis of brucellosis. A retrospective epidemiological and epizootic analysis of the incidence of brucellosis in the Omsk region over a 15-year period and a simple crosssectional clinical study were carried out.

Results and discussion. The clinical picture of chronic and residual brucellosis in all cases was characterized by a lesion of the locomotor apparatus and in 90.8% of cases was combined with the involvement of various parts of the nervous system, which must be taken into account when diagnosing the disease in groups of occupational risk of infection with the pathogen of brucellosis.

Conclusion. There is a need to improve the quality of periodic examinations of the vulnerable population. The organization of medical care for patients should include the participation of a neurologist, rheumatologist and psychiatrist with rehabilitation in specialized departments and sanatoriums.
