Academician Georgy P. Rudnev - founder of the Department of infectious diseases, Dagestan State Medical University

Abstract

The article is devoted to the life and work of a prominent Soviet infectious disease doctor, therapist, full member of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences, an outstanding scientist, talented teacher and health care organizer - Georgy P. Rudnev. In 1933-1937 he worked at the Dagestan Medical Institute, where he headed two departments - faculty therapy and infectious diseases. The main area of his scientific interests was especially dangerous infections: plague, tularemia, brucellosis, cholera, etc.

All the research work of Georgy P. Rudnev closely related to the demands of clinical practice. He attached particular importance to regional pathology, epidemiology and anti-epidemiological measures, as well as the training of infectious disease specialists in the field.

Under his leadership, about 60 dissertations defended, including 20 doctoral dissertations. He is the author of over 150 scientific papers, monographs and guidelines on infectious diseases. In 2006, at a meeting of the Scientific Society of Dagestan Infectious Diseases, a decision unanimously adopted to perpetuate the memory of Georgy P. Rudnev, giving his name to the department of infectious diseases organized by him with a course in epidemiology.
