Extracellular vesicles (exosomes) and parasitic infections: typical isolation and research technologies. Part 1

Abstract

Exosomal microvesicular structures (EMVS) are extracellular micro- and nano-formations surrounded by membranes produced by eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells in vivo and in vitro, capable of transmitting to other cells various low-molecular compounds (proteins and peptides, cofactors, lipids, metabolites, DNA, RNA, non-coding RNA, and others), which can be detected in biological fluids and various host tissues. They can participate in the synthesis of energy, carry out intercellular communication, regulate immune, neuro-endocrine responses and many other functions and reactions of cells, maintain health and participate in the pathogenesis of many diseases.
