Epidemiological and clinical features of enterovirus (nepolio) infection of 71st type in children in the city of Rostov-on-Don

Abstract

Described the epidemiological and clinical features of enterovirus (Napoli) infection 71 type among the child population in Rostov-on-don.

In Rostov-on-don in 2013, against the background of the relative epidemiological well-being of enterovirus infection in one of the children's pre-school educational institutions, group morbidity of children of younger age groups was registered. In the epidemiological investigation of the focus of enterovirus infection, molecular epidemiological studies were used, carried out with the help of PCR diagnosis, sequencing of genomes of enteroviruses. Medical records of in-patient patients were analyzed, laboratory clinical and instrumental studies were conducted.

It was found that there was a drift of the pathogen of enterovirus infection of 71 type of C4 subgenotype of Chinese origin.

Clinical manifestations of EVI-71 were characterized by a two-phase course. In the first phase, the leading ones were General infectious, catarrhal, FMD-like and lymphoproliferative syndromes. The peculiarity of the second phase of the course of the infectious process is the addition of symptoms of central nervous system. In most patients, the disease developed on a burdened premorbid background. The use of combined treatment of children with EVI-71, including means of etiotropic and pathogenetic therapy, allowed to obtain a therapeutic effect. No deaths were recorded, except in the first case. The implementation of complex anti-epidemic measures allowed to localize and eliminate the foci of EVI.
