Clinic of the varicella zoster virus infection in adults and children

AbstractThe paper presents a comparative analysis of the incidence and clinical course of varicella in hospitalized patients (202 children and 55 adults) according to Penza Regional Clinical Center of Specialized Types of Medical Care for 2010-2014. Revealed that were significantly more frequently hospitalized children, aged 3 to 14 years and among adults aged 18 to 34 years. The severity of varicella, the incidence of complications from the nervous system in children and adults showed no significant differences. The period of rash in children was characterized by a predominant localization of the rash on the trunk and extremities, and in adults on the face and torso. In children was lower the intensity of pruritus and lower incidence of enantemy on the mucous membranes, than in adult patients. lymphadenopathy in children had a generalized, but were detected less frequently than in patients older than 18 years. Duration of intoxication syndrome and the duration of hospitalization did not differ significantly in children and adults. The obtained data can be used to predict the course and outcomes of varicella in children and adults.
