Self-efficacy as a necessary element of formation of competence in medical education: the opinion of a physician-teacher

AbstractThe authors of this paper address the concept of self-efficacy in higher medical education, substantiate its importance for vocational training of a competent physician and provide a brief overview of existing instruments used to assess general, academic and professional self-efficacy. Results of the first experience of CASES implementation in Russia to measure general academic self-efficacy among medical high school students are presented. Development and impLementation of originaL survey scales is suggested for further evaluation of training efficiency in clinical disciplines including infectious diseases in Russian academic practice.
