Detection of LAM-antigen in urine as a rapid method of diacnostics of tuberculosis in HIV-infected patients
AbstractLAM-ELISA is a new method of laboratory diagnostics of tuberculosis in HIV-positive patients based on detection of the cell wall lipoarabinomannan of Mycobacterium sp. in urine. The test sensitivity increases with decreasing number of CD4+ -lymphocytes and peaks at 50 cells/μL taking on a value of 67 %. In sputum negative lung tuberculosis patients LAM-ELISA is positive in 25 % of cases. Combination of LAM-ELISA and sputum microscopy leads to increased sensitivity: 72,2 % at less than 50 CD4+ -cells μL, 65,5 % at less than 100 CD4+ -cells/μL and 52,5 % at less than 200 CD4+ cells/μL.
