State of medical care for patients with chronic hepatitis C in Russian Federation

Abstract

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infected annually 3-4 million people and more than 350 thousand die from the outcomes of the infection caused by this virus. Globally, there are approximately 150 million patients with the chronic form of the disease. The significance of viral hepatitis in the Russian Federation is determined not only by their high incidence of chronic forms and significant mortality in the country, but also by high economic damage: in 2016-2017, according to rough estimates by experts, the damage from the first time identified chronic hepatitis C was 3,016,723.5 thousand rubles.

The aim of this study is to analyze the state of medical assistance for patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC) in the Russian Federation. This case are based on the incidence of chronic hepatitis C according to the results of the Office of Federal Service for Consumer Protection and Human Welfare of the Russian Federation and the materials of the chief external experts' reports on infectious diseases of the Russian Federation constituent entities for 2017-2018. In accordance with the obtained results, possible ways of improving the provision of medical care to this category of patients are presented.

Keywords:chronic hepatitis C, diagnostics, dispensary observation, hospital stock (bedspace), staff capacity, antiviral therapy
