Interleukin-28B gene polymorphism in patients with HCV/HIV co-infection and HIV monoinfection

Abstract

The aim of the study was to assess the incidence and comparative characteristics of interleukin-28B (IL-28B) genotypes in patients with combined infection with hepatitis C virus and human immunodeficiency virus and HIV monoinfection.

Material and methods. The retrospective study included 65 adult patients aged 39 [36; 39] years: the first group (n=44) - patients with combined HCV/HIV infection; the second group (n=21) - HIV-monoinfected. Identification of polymorphism of singular nucleotides in the loci of the gene rs8099917 and genotype rs12979860 IL-28B in patients was carried out using a set of reagents "AmpliSens Genоscreen-IL28B-FL". Comparative clinical and laboratory evaluation was carried out for 7±0.76 years.

Results and discussion. There were no statistically significant differences in the frequency of distribution of favorable and unfavorable genotypes of IL-28B gene between groups with HCV/HIV infection and monoinfected HIV (р>0.05). There were no differences in the frequency of patients with the incidence of secondary diseases in both groups (р>0.05). CD4+-lymphocyte levels were lower in the group of HIV-monoinfected patients on HAART with favorable IL-28B gene genotypes compared to other groups (р<0.05).
